Aerotech’s A3200 MotionPAC is a software-based Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) that is completely integrated with Aerotech’s A3200 motion controller to increase programming efficiency, decrease development time and to increase quality. The MotionPAC can be used independently for full machine control or in conjunction with AeroBasic™ programs, and complies with IEC 61131-3 and PLCopen. Users can program in Ladder Diagrams (LD), Function Block Diagrams (FBD) or Structured Text (ST). The MotionPAC’s Integrated Automation will reduce programming and commissioning time by 30% to 50% and is ideal for machine control program development.

Strategic Operations, Inc (STOPS) uses a Galil DMC-4080 8-axis Ethernet motion controller and servo drive package in their Ballistic Unmanned Ground Vehicle (BUGV) used in their Hyper-Realistic™ training environments for military, law enforcement and homeland security operations.

Designed for training operations, no live driver sits in the BUGV; just hyper realistic foam mannequins. Real people operate the vehicle via a sophisticated remote control device. Key driving functions are managed by the Galil DMC-4080 8-axis Ethernet motion controller which incorporates two Galil D3040 4-axis, 500 W drives operating at voltages between 20 V and 80 V and peak currents up to 10 A per axis.

The single channel E-709 piezo controller from Physik Instrumente (PI) has been already introduced for piezo-based positioners and scanners which use strain sensors. Since the majority of the nanopositioning systems from PI employ such sensors, the E-709 allows significantly lower system costs in comparison to the digital controllers offered up until now.

The biggest differences between the digital and analog controllers are that you can influence all parameters directly through calculation algorithms using software commands. The controller works with linearization algorithms which improve the positioning accuracy of the piezo system to below 0.01%.
